#RaisetheWage and #ActOn1010
As consumers, we all have received one of those letters where businesses tell us that they have to raise their prices and rates, and why. It's usually because their overhead and cost to bring us the product with continued good quality, has gone up, such as rent, gas/electric, water and other utilities; all necessities and costs of doing business.
Well, consider the current #RaiseTheWage bill and proposal in Congress now. Consider it as a letter from We The Consumers and Employees to inform you that we have to raise our rates because our overhead and costs to live; rent, food, utilities and water has also gone up, JUST LIKE YOURS. For us to continue to live a humane quality life, and bring to your establishments a quality product, our hard and/or honorable work, you must #RaiseTheWage.
The necessities of business and the costs of QUALITY living are one and the same. We are all in this together.
A few days ago I replied to a tweet, "let the private money flow". Raising the wage is one good way. It allows government money to be better spent, while Capitalism does one of the things it was designed to do which is to circulate money and fund whole communites through Business Ownership, Employment, Fair Competition, and Consumer Choices. All of these lead to a great economy, and more tax money for the government to spend on infrastructure like schools, roads, and bridges, and also begin to pay down our enormous national debt, instead of funding more welfare programs and things like TEMPORARY Federal #UnemploymentInsurance (I speak to my brothers and sisters on the Left) to make up the difference and gaps that the private sector should be filling. More tax money by volume because of choice and not higher rates, is preferable by all. Consider, especially you, I say to my brothers and sisters on the political Right.
I pray that all employers will be fair to employees when evaluating their own financial abilities and projections and pay them with much generosity. But as for government responsibility to ALL the people's general welfare per our Constitution; employer, employee, the unemployed, or may one day need to be employed, $10.10 per hour is about right. Much higher forced upon them would work against businesses, and trickle down to work against employees and employment and all our economy. Anything higher should be left for owners to decide and their choice.
A living wage is one that covers the basic necessities to live, and improve one's lot. It is one that covers survival. I do not believe in redistribution of wealth at all, or #RobinHood. Equality must come by way of work, favor and opportunity, not robbing the rich. But it is all and everyone's responsibility in any good civilization to be humane, and ensure that the least among us has the least, especially the responsible, willing to work that are proven, and some that are not proven.
With all this said, I hope that business people themselves will come out strong in support of the #RaiseTheWage bill, and not let it die. It is not looking to make anyone rich off another's back. It only addresses fairness, decency and humanity per the current circumstances and math. Do the math of this economy and all the elements, yourselves. $10.10 is about right. #ActOn1010 and #RaiseTheWage.
After this raise, and before another is needed, it would be wise to address and attack the high costs of living and doing business, or else we will have a continued vicious cycle. And also, we must continue to #ActOnJobs and as hinted above begin to #ActOnDebt.
God Bless America. Raising the wage would truly be a manifestation of the Blessing for so many.
