JimDeMint: What the @Heritage Study Does — And Doesn’t Do @NRO http://t.co/mWhOpCloXY
I admire and applaud you for stepping down from the office of Senate, to become the President of Heritage. Outstanding. I was writing something totally different believing, and having forgotten you left office for this purpose. I apologize. You may never read or know exactly for what I'm apologizing for, but I'm saving it. I hope one day I will meet you, and I can show it to you. It was a scathing piece and then I discovered, I erred. Thank God for Wikipedia. But onto the matter at hand and your twitter post that I have used as a title.
There is a constant, unending election process that seems to be going on in Washington that causes gridlock and nothing gets done because all want to hold on to their jobs. And in order to do that, they have to satisfy the public. There's nothing wrong with satisfying the public, that can be a good thing. But it can go horribly wrong when they try to placate the public, even when the public is wrong or mislead.
Washington's job, and the job of all politicians, especially elected officials, is supposed to be mediation between the law and the people and not be moved by their every whim if it's not wise or Constitutional. If Washington continues to be moved by the public for any reason, then America is become a Socialist nation. But if our elected officials just do what is right only, according to our values, principles, and our laws/Constitution, and then explain why what they do is right through truth and transparency, we are the Republic, with democratically held elections we are supposed to be. God Bless America.
What does that have to do with you and Heritage? You have the ability to move the public. Heritage speaking of amnesty and its effects at this junction, and at this hour, when Immigration Reform is front and center, clouds the issue and adds fuel to the fire. Amnesty is really not being offered, so shouldn't be the focus. You, and any organization, are free to study what you want. But it seems peculiar to study amnesty now, and is distracting. This could cause politicians to act or not act, because of or based on the people, who could be mislead by Heritage's study. And once again nothing will get done. Though neither yourself nor Heritage have the same level of responsibility that we hold elected representatives to, I strongly believe in personal responsibility and doing what's right even when one doesn't have to and will not be specifically held accountable. If anyone or organization can help a cause or matter in a good way, rather than harm, they should.
Immigration and the 11 million plus living here in America illegally now, must be dealt with. Status quo is an option, but a poor one, and one taken for far too long.
Mass deportation is an option too, but I don't believe a good one, and it too just a mass amnesty, is not being considered.
You may oppose each proposal, and disagree with them, but to " stir the pot" benefits no one. Neither this administration, nor the Gang of Eight is, nor I believe will or wants to give blanket citizenship.
So, if amnesty is not on the table, there is no reason for it to be explored now. And when it is, it looks as if Heritage is creating a false image for political purposes, and sabotage, while saying it's only a study. That may not be your motive, but that's how it appears.
Heritage gives no real counter solution, and clouds/detracts from the real issues plaguing Immigration and so by extension what's plaguing all aspects of America, as you point out. So, anything causing us to not move forward, though cautiously and deliberately considering all aspects we must move, is detrimental. Every second in this current state costs us.
I will say it again. Amnesty is not being offered. We both know that. So why study and make problems when there aren't any and when there's so much work to be done? Why wouldn't you study the framework set now, and from the results of the study, be constructive. Productive. That's what American citizens need right now, not mere studies that cause unnecessary strife. Perhaps a year or two ago, your study on amnesty to avoid it made sense. But now it looks and feels politically suspicious. It is slightly dishonest to make it appear to the people that amnesty is on the way, even if your facts concerning it is true, and I do believe most of your results. But I also believe mostly everyone is on the same page. We just must deal with the details.
This is why you have received criticism. You could have studied the effects of the current plans, to help the legislation and problem.
Heritage should be neutral, but it just doesn't seem that way in these matters. It does not appear that Heritage is just an "educational institution". Regardless of actual content and agreement, I have been as critical of other political/social groups.
Good day. God bless. Please don't get angry and defensive, but wholly consider what I say. Let's get the Houses and Washington productive again.
Yulanda K.
