What makes for Good Legislation? The 4 "C"s
#Comprehensive, #CommonGround, and #Commonsense legislation that casts the widest net and helps as many as possible, while being #Constitutional will move America forward.
Notice that I've left out that other "C" word that is often used in politics, #Compromise. Compromise is a placebo. It sweeps things under the rug, while only seemingly handling situations and solving problems. It is a band aid, that makes every generation have to re-visit again and again the same issues rather than moving forward, onward and upward to new heights and greater challenges, or amending what was already done if needed, as it may become necessary.
Compromise sometimes is good, just like a tourniquet or safety pin that holds things together until real problem solving can be done and healing can take place. But it is never a conclusion to any matter. The proverbial "it's a good deal when no one is happy?", how's that working for America these days or the world? But there is a way that most people, at least reasonable, sensible people, which I believe most people are, can be happy. These 4 "C"s create a place where all can be satisfied. There are real solutions and answers out there that are more than just compromises.
It these real solutions, that enable every one to keep intact the integrity of their principles and beliefs, or change and grow if necessary. Using these four "C"s, every one that proposes any legislation can convince and qualify every thought and plan that they say is good for America. They should be able to explain each idea and point of view to the American people; sifting them through these 4 "C"s. This will garner faith from the people and the other legislators. And it will allow for real agreement, and therefore cooperation and therefore a successful, working government. And this model is for government on every level; federal, state, and local. It is also applicable, in every sphere and group, even the home, though perhaps the "C" that stands for Constitutional may change while another foundation is considered, such as the Word of God, or the Bible to Christians or Rules and procedures at any particular work place, for example.
But back to Government and Legislation. Power to the People. America and our American government is still of the people, by the people and for the people. And the most powerful force is still the well informed, and accurately so, voter. The public servant that does everything to properly inform us, is the one that really cares for all of America's well being and not just their own self-serving purpose or purposes. Just the facts ma'am, and the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, according to our laws and American values. That's what's needed. This is what makes for a good #PublicServant and not just a career politician.
Even if the majority wants something, if it doesn't lay firmly on top of our countries firm foundation, it must be cast down and disregarded. If it doesn't fit, it ain't legit. It is up to our officials to make sure of this. That takes character and strength.
Our representatives, from all three branches, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, that are elected and appointed are supposed to be mediators between the Law and "We the People", and consider our desires, but properly balance them with what is lawful and right. Then, they must be able to adequately explain as to why something is unlawful or unwise, and can not, shouldn't be done, or a better way. They are not just to implement their own ways, and preferences. But neither are they to just do the will of the people, even the will of the majority. That would make us more of a Socialist nation, or at the very best a pure Democracy, neither of which we are. We are a Republic, that holds democratic elections and allows for some democratic or majority rules politics on certain issues as long as in any case, the will of the majority does not conflict with the Constitution, and/or infringe on any individual's rights.
America was built such that the will of "We The People" could rule, but not at the expense of even one individual's constitutional or natural born rights. The smallest minority in the nation or in the whole wide world for that matter is the lone individual. They are the least among us, and must be protected at all times. And at any given time, we are all as separate beings, the least. It is also just as important that the will of the individual is not placed above the collective rights of everyone else or any sub group either. The Constitution is Common Ground and our scale of Justice.
If everyone wanted to give up free speech or at least not exercise it, and only one wanted to speak, our representatives are to ensure that that one person's right to freely exercise their freedom of speech is protected without threat or harm for exercising it, even if the speech itself is detestable and without necessarily the representatives agreement.
And if that same wanted to yell fire, in a crowded theater, as a prank, our representatives are to protect everyone else's right from speech that will cause direct physical damage or harm in other ways to one or to many. It is the same with libel and slander, especially balanced with the right to freely publish or freedom of the press. It can get tricky in rightfully dividing these matters, but God Bless America indeed.
If no one wanted to possess a firearm, except only one, then our representatives must fight, not for a right to shoot or right for violence, nor to provide a weapon, but they are to fight and protect their right to exercise the right to possess for defense of our Free Nation and by extension self.
If one was to take said weapon and go on the offensive, and criminally attack by threatening, maiming, or killing, it is for our representatives to protect everyone else's right to life and enforce the law against that individual.
Ohhhh! I will keep saying and singing the praises of our American Fore-Fathers and founders. Pure genius. The Constitution and American principles are God breathed! The Providence of this nation can not be denied. And there is a grace for every governmental leader on every level, to represent all Americans well in every cause, and move us forward in a good way; neither stagnant nor in circles, nor backwards, nor in the wrong direction will do.
God Bless America.
