An Open Response to the Video Clip Linked Below By Sen. Marco Rubio
Sir. The video clip you made laying out your outline to fix our Immigration problem and repair and reform it, demonstrates the quintessential PROBLEM us regular folk is having with ALL of Washington.
You are as a Conservative picking a fight with Liberals and especially with the President for no reason. I am for pure dissent and pure opposition. God Bless America. But it must be real, and not a political strategy, but based on fact. You lash out at Liberals and Obama when 95% of what you state as your plan and ideas for Immigration Reform is also in President Obama's Immigration Reform proposal! So, once again, we see needless bickering that just causes strife and gridlock and in action. It has to stop!
I believe the biggest difference in the two plans seems to be what to do first, and the importance of taking care of our borders. Conservatives say that the borders must be secured first, before any other reform takes place. I agree. And, to be fair, the Democrats and Liberals really didn't weigh in too much on this point. I believe they will concede it if you just straight-forwardly communicate why the borders should be secured as best as possible before all else.
But all of your other points; fines, registering, back taxes paid, learning English, etc. can be found in the President's proposal as well. So, what is your real complaint? What is the basis?
It is agreed that perhaps Conservatives have cause for concern with enforcement. But qualifying enforcement and ensuring it can easily be solved by writing the parameters into the bill. And, it is important to note that neither President Obama, nor any Democratic representative will actually be on the ground patrolling the border and making day to day decisions. Give border patrol their marching orders through the bill as the Law they will enforce, and that's that.
Now in the things you mention that isn't in President Obama's bill such as "bio-metrics" and suggesting it should take "ten years" before those that are here can become citizens, I must comment. I'm against bio-metrics being used for this purpose, and until we know more and have a clear standard of accountability for government using bio-metrics, Im against it all together. Slippery slope. And while I do believe you are right that the process should be deliberate, ten years seems long. I would like to know how you came up with that specific time range? But, "going to the back of the line" is right, and yet another point of common ground, being also found in Barack Obama's plan. We seem to be all agreed. It is right. And yet, there's a argument. Why?
In the video clip you speak of the American people's "mistrust in the ability of our government to perform basic functions". You are right. There is a mistrust. So, then the question is why do we mistrust Washington. And the answer is little to nothing gets done. And the further question would be why is there such in action? And the answer can be found in clips and comments such this one that only starts fights so that neither party will communicate, or work together to solve problems, but rather campaign endlessly to keep useless seats of power; useless because NOTHING GETS DONE!
Bi-Partisan is best when it can be done without changing or ignoring American principles. It seems all are pretty much on the same page with Immigration, even some illegal residents, too. It is fighting, just to fight that disturbs us all. The world is watching and all I laid out in this open letter is common knowledge to anyone keeping track. All are watching and listening! All politicians, Conservative and Liberal, must stop playing political games with our lives.
Don't look Right or Left, just do the right thing! This especially goes for all elected or appointed officials while you are in the capacity of actual governing and legislating.
Senator Rubio. You're not a Conservative writing a bill. You're a Senator that represents all of Florida, and a Senator whom in this matter has been passed the baton and trusted to lead all of America in the right direction concerning Immigration. Just do that. Campaign on your own time.
When the Gang of Eight came out publicly and said they were working on a bill, I along with many others praised all of you. And when only a day or two later, President Obama introduced his Immigration plan, I did not like that and said so. Regardless of the details of his plan, the President's timing in presenting it seemed to undermine and undercut what the Bi-Partisan Gang of Eight were trying to do. Not undermine the specifics of the plan itself, but more so in the uniting of Red and Blue America. But when you or any Conservative does this that seems also to be clear gamesmanship, then what else should the President and all Democrats do?
Sir. They are giving you the ball! Take it and run. You can do it without all this other stuff. We are with you. But we will not be with anyone at this point who wants to fight just to fight and still get nothing done, whether Republican or Democrat.
God Bless America. Please remember what that means.
