I Stood Back Concerning Rep. Todd Akin
I Stood Back Concerning Rep. Todd Akin I stood back for a minute to hear how some would spin or if they would spin the Rep. Todd Akin's rape comments. And I stress rape comments for these were not pro-life statements, but anti-rape victim statements. To have the position that the sanctity of life is most important and is to be saved even in the case of incest and rape is a legitimate argument. Rep. Akin has every right to hold that conviction. One could say the baby is only the result of crime and not the committer of the crime, so why punish innocent life. Many hold the other view, that in all cases, regardless of any personal views on abortion, it is the womans choice. We've heard the arguments. But Todd Akin's comments were based on any of these arguments. What Akin's comments boil down to is if a woman gets pregnant, it COULDN'T have been rape. This is the most disgusting statement I've ever heard and dangerous. Woman, or any man who has any care for any woman, had better think twice about keeping this guy in a leadership role or promoting him and giving him more power. #Think As for the "apology, it wasn't adequate at all. This was not a gaffe. People mis-speak all the time. Not all are smooth and silver tongued. But the overall content of his statements went far deeper then a regrettable one liner. It is not the same as Biden's remark or even any pro-life GOP remarks. I believe a real apology would contain a total retraction and I dare say repentance to every woman and most definately every victim of rape. Absolutely disgusting it was. To all pro-life advocates, as am I, I just do it in a different way. You have the right to be pro-life, but if you cover this up, we have a much deeper issue than a simple disagreement. -Yulanda K.
